PARENT LEADERSHIP TRAINING INSTITUTE

The Parent Leadership Training Institute (PLTI) is a free program seeking to enable parents to become leading advocates for children. Parents are selected to participate with consideration to their ability to commit to the entire program and how their participation in the program will enhance diversity, learning, and group cohesion.

Parents are offered three phases of training:

(1) A retreat to develop group cohesions

(2) A 10 week course on leadership, personal history, and perception

(3) A 10 week course on politics, policy, and media + a community project

ABOUT THE CURRICULUM

Retreat: Creating a Caring Community for Children

Weeks 1-10: Classes include Thriving on Diversity, Parents as Change Agents, The Intentional Use of Language, and Using Your Voice.

Weeks 11-20: Classes include What is Public Policy?, How Do We Understand the Law?, Social and Economic Trends Affecting Children and Families, & Life Cycle of the Child and Family Function
